Cerillion secures contract for world’s first UMTS services
01 October 2000
Cerillion Technologies has been selected to provide convergent customer care and billing for one of the world's first commercial UMTS services. Manx Telecom, a wholly owned subsidiary of BT, is implementing the UMTS platform on the Isle of Man, and expects to launch the services early next year.
Cerillion will supply its fully convergent platform covering all aspects of customer care and billing for fixed, GSM, UMTS and IP Services, and will also deploy the Cerillion Web Care suite, which enables customers to register and maintain their services on-line. Cerillion Web Care will enable Manx Telecom to ensure that on-line customer care transactions can be fulfilled efficiently, without manual intervention.
Mark Briers, BT's Director for the Manx UMTS Project said: In developing a leading-edge project of this type, it is important that we choose partners who will provide us with the strongest foundation. Cerillion Technologies presented us with a platform which not only supports this emerging technology, but also enhances business and customer interactivity. Demonstrating flexibility in meeting our detailed customer requirements proved key, and we look forward to a successful partnership in delivering results.
Louis Hall, Managing Director, Cerillion Technologies, commented: We are very excited about winning this contract as it reaffirms our commitment to a fully convergent platform supporting the latest technologies.
This is also the first deployment of Cerillion's new Oracle version, benefiting from the extensive redevelopment that has taken place since Cerillion acquired the Frost customer care and billing business from Logica. We are also delighted to be working closely with Xacct Technologies on this project, who are providing IP mediation.
The award of the contract follows closely the £3 million investment in Cerillion Technologies by Granville Baird Capital Partners, the Anglo-US venture capital firm. The investment is being used to add further resources to Cerillion's extensive development programme, as well as extending marketing activities.
