Amazon Prime Video now streaming in VR Amazon Prime continues to offer more compelling offerings in its popular subscription bundle. The company has just added Virtual Reality (VR) capabilities to its Amazon Prime Video service. Apart from this headline story in our weekly subscription roundup, we look at Uber’s new all-in-one subscription service. Netflix has also gone ahead with its plans to launch an inexpensive, mobile-only plan for Indian users. Amazon Prime Video brings VR streaming to headsets

Amazon’s video streaming service can now be accessed on VR headsets such as the Oculus Quest, Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR. The headsets can be used to watch Amazon Originals, live events and channel subscriptions, among other offerings. Incidentally, Netflix, Hulu and YouTube already have VR viewing capabilities on their platforms.

Uber testing a common subscription plan for rides, food deliveries, bikes and scooters

Ride hailing giant Uber is testing an Amazon Prime-like subscription bundle which combines all its major services – rides, food deliveries, bike and scooter rentals. The pass is priced at $24.99 per month and is currently being tested in Chicago and San Francisco. The plan will give subscribers access to price protection or fixed discounts on every ride, free Uber Eats deliveries as well as free bike and scooter rentals.

Netflix launches $3 per month mobile-only plan in India

Netflix has gone ahead with its plans of introducing a cheaper subscription plan to spur growth in India. The $3 monthly subscription plan allows standard definition streaming on one smartphone or tablet. After a disappointing Q2 earnings report, the SVOD giant will hope that it can garner more subscribers this quarter. Currently, this plan is only available in India.

Despite Spotify’s recent push towards non-music audio content on its platform, Apple Music continues to maintain a healthy lead over its arch rival in the podcasts category. However, Spotify is catching up fast as it has taken the lead in podcasts in several countries including Germany, Netherlands, Bulgaria, Spain and India, among others.

Rover testing monthly subscriptions

Toronto-based Rover is testing subscriptions for its peer-to-peer parking marketplace. Rover lets users rent out parking spots to other users, providing them an opportunity to generate some passive income. The platform which operated on a per-use, on-demand model till now is testing out different versions of a monthly subscription plan that could be anywhere in the CAD $5-$15 range.
